Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I own vehicles from a wide range of years and needed a scanner to cover late 90’s OBD II systems. I reached out to Xtool to see if the D5S scanner would perform a Crankshaft Sensor Relearn on my ‘98 Chevy truck, and they were able to confirm it would after being provided with the VIN.I set up the scanner and updated the software before connecting it to any vehicles. Updates were relatively fast and connecting to my Wi-Fi was simple; I opted to update all but you can select specific brands if you’re in a rush to get started. While the AutoVIN feature did not work on the older OBD II system in the ‘98, this was not a surprise. Manually entering the VIN is straightforward and ensures the scanner grants access to the correct functions. I quickly performed the crankshaft sensor relearn procedure by following the on-screen prompts. The D5S’s processor speed is excellent, surpassing the Launch scanner I had been using. Lag is minimal while the scanner is working, and it quickly and correctly pulled codes from the truck. It’s overall smaller and lighter than the aforementioned scanner, but still has a nice, rugged casing to keep it protected. When I connected the D5S to my ’22 Honda, the AutoVIN feature worked immediately, and it detected my ’05 Mustang just as quickly. On both vehicles, I accessed diagnostics and live data swiftly. This scanner provides more information than most people need, but for DIY enthusiasts like me, it is a valuable tool for diagnosing multiple systems. Some of the special functions included on this scanner are paid items on others, and the free lifetime software updates give me confidence that this will be a part of my tool arsenal for a long time.”
Customer Review: “Update: I’ve been able to use this scanner a bit now and it has impressed me quite a bit. The screen is clear and bright, touch controls are responsive and navigating menus is a breeze.Outside of Amazon sending me a used and returned unit it has performed flawlessly. It pulls up codes pretty quickly, though it takes a bit to scan through the different modules, and the live data is butter smooth and updates very quickly. This scanner easily rivals my old Snap-On scanner, the Solus Pro, which cost thousands of dollars when I bought it about 10 years ago.So why buy this scanner if I have a pro grade scanner? Pretty simple: rechargeable battery, smaller and more compact size, and free updates!Honestly, I’m very satisfied with this scanner. It’s updated twice in the past week and they haven’t cost me a dime. Good luck getting that kind of service with something like my Solus Pro. Those updates still cost hundreds of dollars.Another reason I like this scanner? Customer service. An XTOOL rep saw my initial review and reached out to me about it. We have gone back and forth a bit in the past week and they are going to try to make it right even though it was a failing on Amazons part. Where are you getting this kind of service anywhere else?As a former career mechanic, I highly recommend this scanner or any of their other scanners. You should also know that this scanner will recharge off of the vehicles OBD2 port while it’s plugged in, so you don’t have to worry about the battery dying as you’re diagnosing the vehicle or having an extra charging cable running to the scanner. That’s fantastic for viewing live data as someone else drives the vehicle.Initial review: I received a previously used scanner. It was registered to Herman, though he was probably not the Munster. I also have their WiFi network information and everything else they put into this scanner. I’m not sure why they returned it after using it on 2-28-25 on an Infiniti, but they did. While I am marking this review at 3 stars, I understand that it is unlikely an issue with the seller.I did delete the previous user and then updated the scanner, it took a while since it needed a system update and 41 module updates, but it went pretty quickly. You should know that in the “update” menu there is an update all button, but it is only labeled “updates”. I had started to update them individually before I pressed it, not knowing what it would do. Did you expect me to read the instructions?I’m not sure if I should return this or just complain to Amazon or the seller, see what they know about this, but I do need a scanner and so far this is pretty quick to navigate the different menus and should perform well.So far I haven’t used it, but I will at least give it a shot before I do anything else. It does seem well made.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “UPDATE: the unit won’t work if you don’t do updates. It works fine once you do updates.I am getting various transmission codes. I’ve researched the forums and YouTube. This allowed me to look at the specific codes (P0843, P0877, P0751, etc) and the components. I was able to look at all my shift solenoids, Pressure switch’s, and trans temperature at the same time. It was 15F outside and I was able to see the trans temperature read 80F, and if I cleared the code and shifted it went to limp mode, and then the transmission read -40F. I’m replacing the Pressure Switch assembly (ALLISON TRANSMISSION 29546972 PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY 5-SPEED & 6-SPEED 01-18) and expect the temperature to read correctly. The gauge reads correctly today after clearing the code.I bought this for my Chevy 2500 with a Duramax engine to read a code. Basic code readers were giving me a generic code (P0700) and this was snow to give me more specific detail (shift solenoid 2) as well as the ability to move monitor data. Some say the software stops working in a few months, but after two days of playing with it I’m happy for the one time.It automatically detects your vin. Also, it stores stuff on servers in China (if you couldn’t tell by the price) so if you want USA made this isn’t it. If you shop at Walmart, Target, or Auto Zone you’ll be right at home. This is not a programmer. It won’t turn off features you don’t like. It could help diagnose a misfire, monitor transmission or engine coolant temps, tell you the flow plug status, etc.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I’ve used a lot of diagnostic scanners over the years, and the KINGBOLEN S6 Elite honestly impressed me right out of the box. This is a very advanced scan tool that gives you access to virtually all vehicle systems, not just basic engine codes. One example: we had a vehicle come into our small automotive shop with an all-around camera system malfunction. One of the cameras wasn’t working, and instead of sending the customer straight to the dealership, we were able to use the S6 Elite to scan all systems, pinpoint the fault, and diagnose the issue in-house. That alone saved the customer a ton of money and time, and it paid for the tool in my mind. The scanner does a full system scan, has a wide range of maintenance reset functions, and the live data streams are clear and easy to read. Being able to see real-time data across different modules makes diagnostics much more efficient and helps you know exactly where to start your actual repair work instead of guessing. This is truly a powerful tool that cuts down diagnostic time significantly. Whether you’re running a mechanic shop, doing serious DIY work, or just want professional-level insight into your vehicle, I highly recommend the KINGBOLEN S6 Elite. It’s well worth the investment.”
Customer Review: “I’ve used this scanner on a variety of vehicles — Honda Accord, Subaru WRX, Volkswagen Passat, and a Ford F-150 — and it performed reliably on all of them. Whether dealing with everyday passenger cars or a full-size pickup, it consistently located and cleared fault codes with no hiccupsOne of the standout features is how straightforward it is to operate. The scanner connects easily to the OBD2 port, and the interface guides you through scans without any guesswork. This makes it accessible whether you’re a seasoned DIYer or someone doing basic diagnostics for the first time.Across all test vehicles, the scanner successfully identified codes that corresponded with expected issues, and clearing them was simple and effective. For most typical engine codes and system faults, it provided accurate readings and allowed resets smoothly. This isn’t just a basic “plug-and-clear” reader — it offers broad diagnostic functions that are useful for serious enthusiasts or professional use. It supports full system scans and different reset services, meaning you can diagnose beyond just check engine lights (e.g., system readiness) — similar to what more advanced toolsThe hardware feels robust, and the software navigation is responsive. It handled extended scanning sessions without freezing or lagging. The lifetime update support advertised is a nice bonus, helping the scanner stay current with newer vehicle protocolsOverall, this scanner strikes an excellent balance between usability and capability. If you work on your own vehicles, want to save diagnostic fees, or need a more robust tool for a professional shop, this unit delivers solid performance. Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “Works great for hybrid cars that have no temp or rpm gauge. Set up the way you want. Good cracker.”
Customer Review: “I’d say 4.5 stars. Not 5 stars. If you are familiar with the ScanGuage II, this displays more info. It is worth the money to upgrade. I have been a fan of my ScanGuage II for years. I bought it many years back, when taking a trip out west through the mountains pulling a camping trailer. I wanted to monitor my transmission temperature. Over the years, I have used it to pull check engine light DTC codes and fix things. This new one has different screen displays for the info depending on what you are wanting it to display. It can dispaly more guages on the screen. The ScanGuage II gives you the fault code. You had to look up what it was. This gives what the code means, no need to look up.Other improvements.Color display. The ability to track your day’s driving, not just from the last time the engine was turned on.X guages are easier. It is a bit larger than the II. Not bad, smaller than the old GPS’s.Overall I like it. I would buy again. So why 4.5 stars?Getting at, and clearing the codes, is a little harder than the older II. Not bad. It seems as if I have to take an extra step. The old ScanGuage II, had plugs for the cable on the back and the side. This only has the back plug. So you can’t mount it flat on the dash. The communication cable has strain relief on it. I like that, but it makess it stick out pretty far behind the guage. It makes the cable a little difficult to string when doing a permanent mount.I fixed this by getting set of very short M/F – RJ45 extension cables with built in 90s on the male end. The set of cables have one in each 90 degeee direction. They sell a set of M/F 90 degree adapter fittings too. These work, but stick out a shade more than the extension cables, maybe a quarter inch or so more. There have been no issues communicating with either type adapter.ScanGuage, if you are checking reviews for suggestions, please bring back a side or bottom input plug.Consider a software update customers could download that would allow you to set the orentation of the screens so the guage could be mounted portrait or landscape.Consider including a RJ45 90 degee adapter. They make one that swivels 360 degrees so you can set it in the direction you want the cable to go.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “The media could not be loaded. Just like the title says, this is a great diagnostic tool! And the price? Hard to beat for what you get with this unit, particularly because it’s currently on sale as I’m writing this review. I tested this tool on my 3 vehicles without any issues. Two of them had zero codes, but one needed a service reset which was a breeze with the S608. On my Range Rover, I was able to successfully diagnose a bad connection to the SRS (air bag) on the driver’s side. I’ve known about this issue, but the S608 was able to quickly confirm it. I reset the code with ease.I’ll add some pros and cons (yes, there are some) below, but here’s a couple highlights. What I like most is how easy it is to use. It boots right up to the main screen with nice large icons. The physical buttons on the right are a nice touch that add to the experience, instead being an unnecessary throwback to the old school diag tools. They have a good, solid feel to them and respond well. The menus are simple and straightforward, and that’s a good thing. I never felt like I had to search for any functions. The live data streams work great and the ability to graph them is a huge bonus. This tool has a lot of premium features more commonplace on expensive units, hence the great value. The lifetime software updates blew my mind. Almost no one does that. It’s a little ridiculous that you pay $1000+ for a high-functioning scanner, then get hit with subscription fees of hundreds of dollars a year after your initial subscription period ends. You literally never have to worry about that here and that’s amazing.Lastly the hardware/software combo is perfect as I never experienced any lag. I have a $1300 tool by a different manufacturer and this one blows that away in terms of speed. Granted the $1300 tool performs many more functions, but it’s a chore to use waiting for menus to come up. Not so, here. This will be my go-to for every day use while my other more expensive tool will be used mainly for complex diagnostics and for troubleshooting other systems not covered by this unit. The S608 is perfect for a DIY home mechanic looking for a versatile diagnostic tool that’s a great value. The S608 will handle what 95% of home mechanics need.PROSEasy to use, very good battery life, live customer support, lifetime updates, fast, good range of functions.CONSThe screen should come with a temp screen protector. My unit had some light scuffs on the screen when I unboxed it. A longer ODB cable would be nice. The cable is perfect if you’re sitting in the driver’s seat, but won’t reach anywhere outside of that. You could probably even purchase this separately, if needed.”
Customer Review: “Has exceeded my expectations for the price and features it offers. Right out of the box, it feels solid and well-built, with a rugged design that’s perfect for garage use. The screen is bright, clear. Setup is quick and straightforward. The touchscreen interface is smooth and user-friendly, making it easy to navigate through diagnostics, maintenance functions, and settings. It connects quickly to vehicles and reads codes fast without lag.”
