Customer Reviews

Customer Review: I replaced my old OBDII unit, because when I would read the codes on my 2005 Lexus ES300 (P40002, P0004 and P0006 codes), upon clearing the codes, I would find that my SRS lost it’s calibration and my car computer would think it was in the middle of a “roll-over” and would turn off the Anti-lock brakes and traction control. This meant that I had to re-calibrate the SRS every time I read the codes. My old meter read the codes, and hinted at the problem – which meant hours looking for a vacuum leak. All told – hours wasted and lots of frustration. So, I got this little gem. It read the same codes, as expected – and then SUGGESTED some easy fixes. Guess what? An $8 replacement gas cap fixed my problem. And, because this meter reset the codes and is compatible with CAN-Bus, it didnt’ screw up my SRS and ABS system after reading the codes. It does so much more than my old meter! And another plus. If you are like me; you buy this, and generally only use it a couple of times a year. And, likely have batteries that get left there to rot, and hopefully they are replaced before they leak. This requires NO batteries. That’s right – it just taps into the vehicle’s battery and takes what little power it needs to run the CPU from the car – so you can store it indefinitely without worrying that the battery will leak acid and destroy the unit. It boots up in about 10 seconds, and autel has firmware updates online so you can keep it updated. You will need WindowsXP or newer. I had no issues with Win10. Update was easy and pretty fool-proof. Included software also allows you to capture screen-shots to review on your PC (again, Windows only – not Mac – I couldn’t get Parallels to play with this on my Mac running El Capitan). So – as far as I can confirm – you will need a PC running WindowsXP or later.I also had no issues getting this to connect to my 2003 Toyota Tacoma – so it works perfectly with “older” vehicles too. It connected with my vehicles flawlessly, every time. BTW – I updated to the latest firmware on the autel website upon receiving the unit. Again, to be clear – it’s straightforward, the download is relatively small, the update takes less than a minute and I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

Customer Review: Have to smog a vehicle (its been a while since I’ve done that) and my Bluetooth adapter finally died. I was looking for a complete all in one so I didn’t have to link it up and mess with the adapter, this scanned both vehicles and quickly connected to live data and IM’s readiness. The user interface is really slick, and easy to read on the color screen. I remember when this level of functionality was way pricier! Didn’t even have to look at the manual or look up codes they had a little help menu with each meaning right on the screen at the touch of a button, O2 wasn’t ready (IM’s) and found a dead clutch pedal switch, easy part swap and easy to see that the O2 was responding appropriately via live data graphs. I was able to read up on how to set it and with a little driving from the manual it set everything and the switch replacement worked as well. Now the car is all ready to go in. The interface is super easy and it picked up a few other things reported that didn’t show on a cheep-o scanner. I was able to get all readiness codes set and verified and all the other things fixed up with out wasting a trip. Its a little pricy for the feature set, but they seem to have done a good job with this one, so I’d say just for the easy of use / navigation, and stored lookups and help, this was a good grab and go tool. For a basic scanner it helped for my use case so if that’s all you need this one made it way easier. Graphing data was a huge plus! Graphs are a little slow but perfectly good enough for a handheld tool (look its not a Textronics scope here). I was able to capture O2 stream data and changes reasonably quickly with a good sample rate, that I could verify it was in spec and wasn’t having to guess. It graphs most PID’s smoothly on the ODBII port. If you need some other feature sets you’ll probably pay more, but this was worth it for just being easy to see, ready, and troubleshoot with out looking up anything in a tiny booklet or having to go in and google. Autel FTW!

Complete Buying Guide for Best Obd2 Scanner With Mode 6

Essential Factors We Consider

When choosing the best OBD2 scanner with Mode 6, compatibility is crucial. Ensure the device supports your vehicle’s make, model, and year—generally, scanners supporting 1996+ vehicles cover most cars with a 16-pin OBD2 port. Mode 6 access is vital for detailed system test results beyond basic fault codes, so confirm that the scanner explicitly supports it. Ease of use matters too, so look for intuitive menus and clear displays. Additional features like battery testing, live data streaming, and built-in DTC libraries add value. Lastly, consider update availability to keep the scanner current with evolving vehicle protocols.

Budget Planning

OBD2 scanners range from budget-friendly models offering basic scanning with Mode 6, to advanced scanners with live data graphing and extended diagnostics. Determine your needs: for simple code reading and clearing, affordable models suffice. For professional-level diagnostics and frequent use, investing in a mid-tier or higher-end scanner pays off with better features and durability. Keep in mind some scanners require PC-based updates, which may add slight complexity. Balance your budget with desired features for the best value.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the best OBD2 scanner with Mode 6 means finding a tool that gives you confidence in diagnosing vehicle issues quickly and accurately. Whether you’re a DIYer or a professional, the right scanner helps you save time and money by identifying problems early.
