When Should You Apply Clear Coat to Garage Floor?

The clear coat must be applied within 5 days of the base garage floor coating application. Delaying beyond this window usually requires a recoat primer before the clear coat will adhere. Plan the job so both coats go down in the same week. New concrete must cure for at least 30 days before any coating — base or clear — touches it.

Temperature conditions matter too. Apply only when the air, material, and floor temperatures are between 50–90°F (10–32°C). Do not apply if it is raining, extremely damp, or in direct sunlight. Sunlight on the uncured coat causes bubbles and uneven gloss.

Always work from the back of the garage toward the exit so you never have to walk on wet coating.
