Ford Bronco Front License Plate Bracket | No-Drill Fix

Installing a front license plate on a Ford Bronco requires buying an aftermarket or dealer bracket — no trim includes one on the bumper.

If you own a 2021–2026 Bronco in a state that requires front plates, you probably noticed there’s no bracket on the bumper. Ford doesn’t include one from the factory; dealers sometimes leave a bracket loose in the glovebox if the option was ordered. The fix is a simple no-drill bracket that bolts into existing hardware. The catch is picking the right one for your bumper type.

Bumper Types Determine Which Bracket Fits

Ford offers three distinct front bumpers on the sixth-gen Bronco, and each needs a different bracket design. Using the wrong one is the most common mistake by far.

• Standard Plastic Bumper — found on Big Bend, base, and Wildtrak without the Heavy Duty package. Requires a bracket explicitly listed for plastic bumpers; steel designs won’t fit.
• Heavy Duty (HD) Modular Steel Bumper — standard on Badlands and First Edition, optional on Wildtrak. Only HD Modular–specific brackets work here; they won’t mount on plastic or Capable bumpers.
• Capable Steel Bumper — an in-between option. Needs a side-mount bracket; center-mount designs often conflict with the structure.

Check your window sticker or build sheet if you’re unsure. The wrong bracket won’t line up with the bolt holes.

How to Install a No-Drill Bracket

Installation varies slightly by brand, but the general process for steel-bumper brackets follows the same steps. Using the Grimm OffRoad bracket as the example:

1. Squeeze the supplied clip nuts with pliers, then insert them into the license plate frame and mounting bracket — make sure the clips sit on the inside of the bracket bend.
2. Remove the three center bolts securing the skid plate using a T40 Torx driver.
3. Position the bracket against the skid plate or bumper and reinstall the factory hardware.
4. Tighten the skid plate bolts to 17 lb-ft (24 Nm).
5. Verify the plate is square, then final-torque the M6 hardware to 70 lb-in. You’ll see the plate centered and secure.

If you’re using a BuiltRight Industries bracket, you can loosen the 15mm tow hook bolt slightly rather than removing it entirely — just enough to slide the bracket under. For the CravenSpeed Platypus, a T40 Torx removes the factory screw; replace it with the included M8 stainless screw and two washers, leaving a 1/8” gap before tightening. The plate then slides into a keyhole slot so you can remove it without taking the mount off.

Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

• Wrong bumper type. Buying a bracket designed for the HD Modular Steel bumper and trying to mount it on a Plastic Bumper Bronco is the single biggest error. Confirm your bumper before buying.
• Torque confusion. Grabbing a torque wrench set to lb-ft and cranking past the mark can snap the bracket. Use the lower setting.
• Drilling unnecessarily. Some older generic kits require drilling three 3/16” holes for pop rivets into the plastic bumper. Modern no-drill designs make this obsolete — skip any kit that requires drilling.
• Sensor blockage. If you’re using a side-mount bracket on a Capable or HD bumper, make sure the plate doesn’t obstruct the forward ACC sensor. Test the mount before final torque.
