Customer Review: This little item works great, but it has a small caveat if you want its full functionality.As OBDII scanners go, this one does the job at a fraction of the price of a professional scanner. It shows all the information on the screen in an easy to set up software with an intuitive menu. Easy for even the least mechanically inclined people to use. However, you’ll need a separate iPhone, iPad, or Android device to install the app onto.It color codes the issues as to their importance. Green means you should be fine and it’s more of a suggestion than an issue, Yellow means check it out soon or have a mechanic take a look, Red means you should probably stop driving your car and set it on fire. Just kidding. But the information is displayed fully with the OBDII codes along with the explanations as to what they are. In my case, there was a Stored Code and a few Pending Codes. The Stored Code defined what the code is, however the Pending Codes showed ‘Unknown Issue’. I had to go online later to look them up. There’s also an option to clear the dash lights that did not work for me. So does the scanner work? Definitely. Is it worth it? Probably not, and here’s why.The caveat I mentioned? You have to purchase their Premium version at a yearly fee of $99.00 if you want to unlock the scanner’s full potential. I used it this once, found the codes, and now it’ll probably sit on a shelf until the next time the need arises for it. And since I’m mechanically inclined, I can resolve the issues on my own. But, again, “the subscription is optional and is not required for use of the sensor.”If you want a scanner that offers more functionality with no extra costs involved then purchase one of those instead. But if you’re an average Joe or Jolene and you just want to see why your car has those dash lights always on, then this little guy does the job just fine.

I bought it to link up to Torque Pro app for my 2014 Mini Clubman S. but ended up using the OBDLink app instead. The OBDLink app has a great assortment of gauges and picks up all the signals and sensors on the N18 engine without setting up custom PIDS. This was a big surprise because that’s why I purchased Torque Pro. However (for BMW/MINI users) some of the sensors are not readily visible to Torque Pro without adding custom PID formulas – like boost readings. Great dongle, best I’ve had yet. Additionally, the OBDLink app also gives a lot of BMW specific trouble codes. that was a nice surprise as well.

But for reading and clearing codes (and much more), it’s a terrific buy!I was away from home for a few days when I got a Check Engine Light (CEL) in my ’02 Miata. I have a much more sophisticated reader, but it was home and I wasn’t. After downloading and installing the app on my phone, the FlyroadUp scanner quickly showed me that the CEL code was not critical; I cleared it and was on my way!I plan to buy more and just plug ’em in and leave ’em on all my vehicles.

Customer Review: This little device saved me twice. I had one like it that I bought off a different site that would only bring up my 2002 Ford Mustang as a Subaru. I couldn’t get it to read a code that showed up from a Service Engine Soon light that came on and anything it did bring up looked like I had 20 problems. I bought this hoping it would do the trick and it was easy to install and the app worked perfect. I got the code I needed and was able to immediately identify the problem which was an overheat issue which I found out came from a bad thermostat. Well after I installed the thermostat and everything looked good I needed to clear the code so I opened up the app and for the sake of just checking I asked to give me the code again. This time if found 2 other codes which at first confused me but almost immediately realized I had unplugged a wire to get at the thermostat so it reminded me to plug that back in. After I completed that task I was able to clear all codes from the app. I highly recommend this device. It was very inexpensive for what it will do and I’ll be happy to have it around for all my vehicles if that unexpected check engine or service engine soon light comes on.

It’s just as good as a scanner from a garage. You can see the faulty codes and even reset them. Highly recommended. For the price and what it offers, it’s perfect.
